Our History & More
The Mantoloking Fire Company was established in 1930 to serve the the residents of Mantoloking, a small but close-knit community along the Jersey Shore. Over the years, Station 35 has developed into a crucial part of the town's safety infrastructure. The history of the fire company is marked by a tradition of volunteerism and community service, with generations of local residents stepping up to protect their town from fires and other emergencies. This legacy of dedication continues to be a point of pride for the borough.
The Mantoloking Fire Company operates exclusively with the help of local volunteers. These volunteers are typically local residents who commit their time and energy to ensuring the safety of their neighbors. They come from all walks of life, united by a common goal to serve and protect their community. The volunteer nature of the fire company fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and community spirit. All of our members undergo regular training and dedicate significant personal time to be prepared for emergency situations, highlighting their commitment and the vital role they play in Mantoloking.
The fire company provides a wide array of critical services to Mantoloking. Fire suppression and prevention is, of course, our primary responsibility, but our role extends far beyond just putting out fires. Rescue operations, especially important in a coastal town prone to natural disasters like hurricanes, are another key function. Additionally, the fire company engages in fire prevention education, working with schools, businesses, and residents to promote fire safety and prevention practices. This comprehensive service provision ensures the well-being and safety of the entire community.
Mantoloking Fire Company is equipped with modern fire-fighting apparatus and tools to effectively handle a range of emergencies. Our fleet includes our Engine (3501) Mini-Pumper Engine (3502), 2 Fire Chief Trucks (3500 & 3510) which are essential for firefighting operations. The borough also shares rescue vehicles equipped for medical, technical, and coastal rescues. Our apparatus and equipment is meticulously maintained and regularly updated to ensure readiness at all times. Our ability to respond effectively to emergencies relies heavily on the quality and state of their apparatus and equipment.
Continuous training and preparedness are fundamental to our operations. Volunteers undergo rigorous and ongoing training that cover various aspects of firefighting, fire prevention, and rescue operations. This training ensures that all members are proficient in the latest techniques and safety protocols, allowing us to respond efficiently and safely to any emergency. Preparedness drills and simulations are regularly conducted to keep the crew informed and ready for real-life scenarios. Our training not only improves response times but also enhances the overall effectiveness of the fire company.
The fire company is deeply embedded in the fabric of the Mantoloking community. Beyond emergency responses, we participate in numerous community events, fostering a strong bond between the fire company and the residents we serve. This involvement includes educational programs in local schools, where firefighters teach children about fire safety and prevention. The fire company also engages in public demonstrations and open houses, inviting the community to learn more about their operations and equipment. Such activities help build trust and rapport between our fire company and the community, reinforcing the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness.
Natural disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012, pose significant challenges. Station 35 played a crucial role in the immediate response and long-term recovery efforts following the hurricane. We were instrumental in rescue operations, providing emergency medical care, and assisting with the evacuation and protection of residents. The aftermath of such disasters involved extensive rebuilding and support efforts, tasks that the fire company has continuously been involved in. Our experience in responding to such a devastating event has strengthened our preparedness for future incidents, ensuring we are better equipped to handle similar challenges in the future.
The Mantoloking Fire Company stands as a vital and respected institution within the borough, embodying the spirit of volunteerism and community dedication that defines Mantoloking.
